Muzeum Narodowe w Krakowie

Muzeum Narodowe w Krakowie to instytucja kultury powołana przez Radę Miasta Krakowa w 1879 roku, z wpisem do Państwowego Rejestru Muzeów w 1998 roku. Znane ze swojej bogatej kolekcji dzieł sztuki polskiej, europejskiej i pozaeuropejskiej, jest uznawane za jedno z najważniejszych muzeów na świecie.

Początkowo mieściło się w dwóch salach na pierwszym piętrze Sukiennic, a dzięki hojności darczyńców, zarówno z Polski, jak i spoza jej granic, kolekcja muzeum stale rosła. W skład zbiorów wchodzą dzieła malarstwa, grafiki, rzeźby, numizmaty, starodruki, rękopisy i pamiątki związane z historią Polski.

Muzeum ma swoje oddziały w historycznych budynkach w centrum Krakowa, które zostały przekazane mu przez miasto lub prywatnych fundatorów. Znaczącą część kolekcji stanowią dzieła polskich artystów lub związane z Polską. Muzeum pełni również opiekę nad Muzeum i Biblioteką Czartoryskich, a od 2016 roku kolekcja ta, wraz z nieruchomościami, została zakupiona przez Skarb Państwa i przekazana muzeum.

Dzięki digitalizacji zbiorów, kolekcja jest dostępna online na platformie zbiory.mnk.pl, która zawiera ponad 135 000 obiektów - pod koniec 2019 roku.
